Our Story

For years, many of us worked together within India’s apex statutory institution for the protection of child rights, while others served across government ministries, international organisations, academia, and field programmes. We came from different professions - law, public administration, education, research, social work, policy, and community development - but we arrived at the same experience from different directions.

We had seen the State from within. We had drafted policies, interpreted laws, conducted investigations, managed litigation, designed programmes, trained institutions, and engaged with governments across the country. We had travelled to districts where implementation succeeded against all odds, and to others where strong laws failed simply because systems did not speak to one another. We saw real commitment inside public institutions - and, just as often, the same recurring bottlenecks: fragmented responses, institutional silos, gaps between policy and implementation, and too little coordination among the many hands a single problem passes through.

One realisation became impossible to ignore. Most public challenges are not legal problems alone, or administrative problems alone, or social, educational, or health problems alone. They are interconnected, and addressing only one dimension rarely produces lasting change.

It became increasingly clear that sustainable solutions require more than expertise within a single discipline. They require institutions capable of bringing diverse knowledge systems together and creating a common platform where evidence, experience, policy, and practice can meaningfully interact.

That is the thought that became the Network for Access to Justice and Multidisciplinary Outreach Foundation - NAMO Foundation. It was conceived as an independent, multidisciplinary think tank - not to replace public institutions, but to strengthen them: to bridge the gap between research and implementation, law and governance, policy and practice, institutions and the communities they serve.

Today, NAMO Foundation brings together former senior government officials, litigators, researchers, education specialists, development professionals, and grassroots practitioners who have each spent years working inside the very systems they now seek to strengthen. That diversity of lived institutional experience is our greatest strength - it allows us to examine a problem from every angle that touches it, and to build practical solutions, legally sound, and built to work within the systems that already exist.

We exist on a simple belief: meaningful change is rarely achieved by any one institution working alone. Governments, courts, universities, civil society, and communities each hold a piece of the solution. Real impact happens when those pieces are brought deliberately to the same table - and that is the space NAMO Foundation exists to create.
